This was revealed by Akinwole Omoboriowo, the Genesis Energy Corporation Chief Executive Officer during the launch for the Nigeria and Africa modular Mini Hydro Power Solution in London. He further, elaborated that the hydro power engines for the modular units can be deployed on fast-track basis within the period of six months without the excessive operating costs of diesel oil or natural gas.

 

However, the modular units can as well be attached to small mini grid at 415V levels providing direct consumption to the targeted communities. Alternatively, the units can be joined to the distribution network within the area of the modular hydro unit installation. Furthermore, the units also have the capability of increasing the generated Kilo Watt per hour and have zero negative environmental impact as long as the flowing waters from streams or rivers feeds the modular hydro units.

 

According to Marc Eeckhout, the Genesis Executive Director, the mini hydro plants can be put up in practically all parts of Nigeria where qualifying streams or rivers exist, and that their sustainability for the stand-alone utilization can be justified in several States, local governments and in the rural parts of Nigeria where most citizens resides.

 

Nonetheless, several rivers and waterfalls such as Kaduna, Niger, Benue, Cross Rivers and their tributaries are qualified streams in the country providing the desirable opportunity for the exploitation of the hydro energy and with the country’s potential opportunity the SHP company is currently reaching out to the Norwegian Export Credit Agency to secure funds for the Mini Hydro Power project for Nigeria and Africa.

 

Being the largest in the World with tenure of 20 years and with a very low interest rate, the Credit Agency is expected to provide 85% of the total project costs while the remaining 15% cost will be provided by the Federal or the State agencies. The project will also offer employment opportunity where by the locals will be privileged to acquire training lessons on the plant maintenance, to service and operate the mini grids.
