Tanzania: Energy, Water Sectors Attract Australian Investors

Posted on : Tuesday , 12th July 2016

Dar es Salaam — Tanzanians should expect tremendous improvement in the water and energy sectors as a number of Australian investors have expressed their intension to venture into the two areas, a senior Australian official has pledged.

The country's vice minister of Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy, Ms Bernadette Mariane Gierlinger, revealed Thursday her country had stepped up efforts to increase business with Tanzania.

She was speaking during her visit to the 40th edition of the Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF). Ms Gierlinger came with 17 investors following an official government invitation.

During their visit, Australian investors will meet local businesspersons. They are also expected to meet with the ministers responsible for the water and energy dockets.

"We are very pleased to visit Tanzania and we hope that it will also increase our bilateral cooperation. I am also happy to see how big the exhibitions are. I have seen a lot of good things," she said.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Prof Adolf Mkenda, said Australians were also very good in developing the small and medium enterprise (SMEs) which is the leading sector for export in their country.

He said: "We have showed them our vision to build and industrialise the economy, especially industries that have a direct link with agriculture, and also our desire to increase exports to their country as well as attract Australian tourists."

"This is also a chance for us to learn on their best practices, especially on SMEs development," said Prof Mkenda.

More than 2,300 firms, including 30 foreign entities had the opportunity to showcase their products and services in the fair, which attracted thousands of visitors.

The fair, famously known as Sabasaba, was opened on July 28, and officially launched by Rwandan President Paul Kagame on July 1.
