A Call for Applications to Expedite Green Start-Up Ventures Has Been Issued In Kenya

The Kenya Climate Innovation Centre (KCIC) is holding a call for applications as part of its Greenbiz initiative to increase the capability and funding of green start-ups creating creative solutions in Kenya, especially in the waste management, water, and energy sectors. The deadline for interested startups to apply is April 15, 2024.

 

The Kenya Climate Innovation Centre (KCIC) established the Greenbiz Programme in 2021 with the goal of assisting start-ups in Kenya that are pursuing sustainable development (SDGs) in order to address the difficulties posed by climate change in that East African nation. In order to achieve this, a call for applications for Kenyan entrepreneurs was launched on March 15, 2024.

 

These are new businesses that focus on climate technologies or associated waste, water, renewable energy, commercial forestry, or agri-food strategies. The final date for interested start-ups to submit their bids is April 15, 2024.

 

The chosen start-ups will be given a full year of support to help them refine their idea and advance to the marketing phase. A second 12-month program is being prepared to provide fund-raising skills to startups. The Kenya Climate Innovation Centre’s incubator, which speeds up the creation, application, and transfer of locally relevant climate and clean energy solutions in Kenya, is the venue for this program.

 

By 2025, the Kenyan center hopes to assist 300 start-ups and generate 3,000 employment through the Greenbiz initiative, increasing the country's ability to withstand the effects of climate change. The Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) is in favor of the proposal.
