Transformative Ksh. 1 Billion Last Mile Connectivity Energy Project Launched by President Ruto

Posted on : Thursday , 30th January 2025

The goal of President William Ruto's Ksh. 1 billion Last Mile Connectivity Energy Project in Busia County is to increase access to power in underprivileged areas. By improving 148 transformers, this project is expected to alter the region's electricity delivery and benefit almost 20,000 residents.

The president committed to supply dependable and reasonably priced electricity, which is anticipated to improve living conditions, boost economic growth, and expand access to power in nearby towns.

“We are doing more than just lighting up houses with this revolutionary project. We are improving the lives of more than 20,000 households in Busia County, creating opportunities, and assisting businesses," President stated. Along with increasing economic activity, he underlined that the project's successful completion would support inclusive development.

In addition, President Ruto stated, “We commissioned the Kinjavi Village Electrification Project in Nambale, Busia County, which connects 192 households. This is part of our larger program that will at a cost of KSh1 billion connect over 20,000 households in the county to power,"

In order to promote regional development, Mary Emase, MP for Teso South, emphasized how crucial it is to improve energy access. To ensure that the benefits of the initiative reach even the most remote areas, she committed to using some of the NG-CDF funds to connect Teso South's schools, hospitals, and impoverished villages to electricity.

“Energy access is necessary for long-term growth. I'm dedicated to growing this initiative with NG-CDF financing to enable additional homes to benefit from electricity access. This will empower our communities and create a lot of opportunities," Emase stated.

President Ruto noted during the project's unveiling that infrastructure investment, particularly in the area of energy infrastructure, is closely linked to a country's relative economic progress.

“This project is a component of our larger goal to guarantee that all Kenyans, wherever they may be, have access to reasonably priced and dependable electricity. This project will improve the quality of life for thousands of households in Busia," President Ruto stated.

Phase 4's opening in Busia County demonstrates the government's dedication to improving electricity infrastructure nationwide. The project is expected to close the gap between rural and urban growth, boost local businesses, and raise living conditions. By the end of this phase, Busia County's energy problems should be greatly alleviated, and a model for similar projects nationwide will be established.

President Ruto claims that this initiative is essential to guaranteeing fair access to energy, promoting economic expansion, and raising rural residents' quality of living.

The government's dedication to infrastructure development was commended by Busia Governor Dr. Paul Otuoma, who pointed out that the project will increase the county's energy capacity and enable communities to participate in revenue-generating activities.

It is anticipated that the completion of this phase will significantly advance efforts to alleviate Busia County's energy concerns.
