The government of Ethiopia and Djibouti has signed a deal to build a 765km pipeline to transport gas from the landlocked state to Djibouti, partly bordered by the red sea. The Kenya-Tanzania Power Interconnection Project has been divided into several lots, with contractors on the Tanzanian side executing to set up a 510km 400kv transmission line and following substations in order to meet the 2020 completion deadline. In order to exchange electricity effectively the state-owned power utility firm is currently undertaking the Kenya-Tanzania Power Interconnection Project (KTPIP). The project includes building of a 400kV transmission line from Singida to Isinya in Kenya through Babati, Arusha and Namanga. Rwanda’s energy targets are set to get a boost following the government’s decision to provide a concession to a private investor to start production of methane gas from Lake Kivu. Kenya’s Ministry of Energy has released an updated power development plan, unveiling the nation’s energy strategy between 2017 and 2037. Under the strategy, construction of the planned Sh968bn (US$9.6bn) nuclear power plant has been postponed by nine years.
