In order to exchange electricity effectively the state-owned power utility firm is currently undertaking the Kenya-Tanzania Power Interconnection Project (KTPIP). The project includes building of a 400kV transmission line from Singida to Isinya in Kenya through Babati, Arusha and Namanga. Rwanda’s energy targets are set to get a boost following the government’s decision to provide a concession to a private investor to start production of methane gas from Lake Kivu. Kenya’s Ministry of Energy has released an updated power development plan, unveiling the nation’s energy strategy between 2017 and 2037. Under the strategy, construction of the planned Sh968bn (US$9.6bn) nuclear power plant has been postponed by nine years.  According to the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, Stiegler’s Gorge water project in Tanzania is now at 80% complete.
