Tanzania's gas-rich southern regions to join national electricity grid

 The government of Tanzania said on Saturday it will connect the country's gas-rich southern regions of Mtwara and Lindi to the national electricity grid.   Sospeter Muhongo, the east African nation's Minister for Energy and Minerals, told Parliament in the political capital Dodoma that the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has started building a 132 KV transmission line.   The two regions currently get electricity.... Kenya’s power imports from Uganda now rise 32 per cent

 Kenya’s electricity imports from Uganda grew by nearly a third in the year to July saddled by the shutdown of geothermal power grid for lines maintenance.   Kenya imported 40.7 million kilowatt hours (kWh) from Uganda compared to 31 million units in the first seven months of last year – marking a 32 per cent growth, according to official data.   This is a departure from last year when East Africa’s largest.... Kenya Power to use WhatsApp groups to stay in touch with consumers

Ethiopia: Repi Waste-to-Energy Project Nearing Completion

 The Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Electricity said that the Repi waste-to-energy project is 87 per cent complete.   The UK-based Cambridge Industries and China National Electric Engineering Corporation are undertaking the over 95 million USD project. Kenya signs nuclear power deal with South Korea

 Kenya’s nuclear energy bid received a major boost after signing an agreement with the Korea Electric Power Corp (KEPCO).    The company and the Kenya Nuclear Electricity Board (KNEB) signed an MoU to cooperate on construction of nuclear projects and sharing expertise.
