Tanzania: Six-Year 456bn/ - Rural Electricity Deal Signed

The government and the World Bank yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in which the latter will provide 209 million USD (about 456bn/-) for the implementation of six-year Rural Electrification Expansion Programme. African Development Bank backs study into Tanzania hydropower and dam project

Stortemelk Hydro adds 4.5 MW to local electricity grid

Stortemelk Hydro, the third hydropower plant developed in South Africa by Renewable Energy Holdings (REH), started commercial operations on July 29. Tanzania Rural Electrification Program to Reach 7,873 Villages in 5 Years

The Tanzania Rural Energy Agency (REA) recently announced the beginning of implementation of the Rural Electrification Program Phase III. In its 3rd phase, the project aims to electrify more than 7,873 villages in rural Tanzania over the next 5 years. 7,697 villages will be connected to the national grid, while the remaining 176 will be connected to other energy sources. Sh12bn project to end power outages – CS

Banks back 1 000 MW coal fired power project in Kenya

Industrial & Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) and Standard Bank of South Africa have concluded a deal to finance a $2-billion, 1 000 MW Amu coal-fired power plant, in Kenya.   ICBC, which has committed $1.2-billion to the project, has a 20% stake in Standard Bank, which will make available $300-million for the project.   The coal plant is being constructed by a consortium of local and international firms under investment vehicle....
