South Africa: Eskom Signs Koeberg Steam Generators Contract

Continued growth expected for East African transmission and distribution industry

KenGen to build industrial park in Naivasha, Kenya.

Naivasha, Kenya: Kenya Electricity Generating Company (Kengen) has set aside 1,300 acres in Olkaria Naivasha for the construction of an industrial park. Five sites in the geothermal rich area have already been identified for the park with Kengen targeting high consumers of electricity. US firm to build 100MW geothermal power plant in Kenya

 Ormat Technologies, a US power firm has been selected among three other companies to build the 100MWgeothermal power plant in Menengai, Kenya, set to begin in December this year. This will be among other projects which will see Kenya’s energy capacity rise to 5,000MW from 1,533 MW. Nigeria:Power generation hits 4,044mw, improves electricity supply

Tanzania s Ngaka Basin can produce one billion tons of high quality thermal coal

 Tanzania has the potential of bringing birth to one billion tons of high quality thermal coal. Kenya: Sh11 Billion for Electricity in Rural Schools &Homes

Two Kenyan firms win US$2bn Lamu coal plant project bid

 Two local firms, Gulf Energy Limited and Centum Investment Company Limited, have successfully won the bid for construction of the Lamu coal plant. The power plant is going to be constructed at a cost of US$2bn in Mombasa, Kenya. US$500m to be used in construction will be provided by equity fund, and the balance will be funded through debt. Wind energy development booming in Kenya

 Kenya's wind energy capacity is considerable; the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has estimated it could reach 3,000 Megawatts (MW), more than double the current national demand.
